Better collaboration in construction with modern technology

When analysing the main causes of failure costs, we see that poor cooperation in construction, civil engineering and installation services is by far the most important cause. A lot of money and valuable time is lost because stakeholders do not communicate well with each other. In this blog, we show you how to make collaboration in construction easier with handy apps and portals.

Collaboration in construction: focus on internal cooperation first

Collaboration in construction is, of course, a broad term. There is collaboration in the chain where you deal with clients and subcontractors. But there is also the internal cooperation where things often go awry. If you want to work on better cooperation in construction, civil engineering and installation, it is a good idea to start with internal cooperation. Because there is often a lot to be gained there by improving communication flows between the back office and the construction site.

Good use of modern technology to share information with each other is crucial here; in most cases, better cooperation starts with more effective communication! We list some examples of apps and portals with which 4PS supports construction companies in improving communication between construction sites and offices.

4PS Field Service App

The 4PS Field Service App supports field workers in their daily work on site; very useful for construction companies that also focus on renovation and maintenance. The app is fully integrated with our total solution 4PS Construct; all information in the app comes directly from the ERP and is always up to date. For example, when the planner schedules a work order with a colleague, this colleague immediately sees all the information in the Field Service App. Service engineers, painters or glaziers immediately see when and where they need to go, have insight into the details of a work order and see what equipment they need.

This avoids colleagues arriving at the customer unprepared, or having to call the office several times with questions about work orders. All the data they then enter in the app is also directly visible in the ERP for colleagues in the office. For example, the planner can see in the planning overview where employees are currently working. And the administration can directly invoice service orders as soon as the customer signs the digital work order in the Field Service App. Not only does this ensure better cooperation, but the process is also much faster.

4PS On-site App

For colleagues on site, the On-site App is a handy tool to support them in various tasks on the construction site. The 4PS On-site App keeps them up to date with current information within a project; without the need to access the company software. In the 4PS On-site App, you consult the most up-to-date version of documents, issues and checklists. This is important because a lot of time – and money – is lost during construction projects because employees are working with outdated information. In turn, the checklists are a useful tool during inspections or when a property is handed over.  The ability to add photos at specific inspection points also makes the On-site App a handy tool for recording information in accordance with quality assurance.
