As Test Manager, you are responsible for both the process and execution of testing 4PS UK software. The role focuses on product testing, but there are some customer-specific testing activities expected from time to time. 4PS UK is constantly looking to innovate to adopt the latest capabilities that Microsoft offers for business applications, focusing on Business Central but with an emerging aspect of Power Platform, Microsoft 365, and AI. As Test Manager, you must consider all these technologies holistically and identify the best way to ensure quality for our customers, in all software solutions that we deliver.

What does the Test Manager do?

  • Planning product testing as part of 4PS UK’s product release cycle, working closely with the Product Manager.
  • Creating test plans and monitoring progress of testing against release/project deadlines.
  • Executing product testing, working with other testers, using functional knowledge of 4PS solutions to drive relevant and impactful testing.
  • Recording testing evidence and results, and ensuring other testers are doing likewise.
  • Monitoring time spent and reporting on releases to ensure enough resource in place.
  • Establishing and maintaining testing/QA policies and processes.
  • Reviewing releases and incidents, thereby gaining insights into ways we can improve the quality of our releases/fixes.
  • Liaising with QA/test peers in the 4PS Group, primarily within product development, to ensure we’re learning from each other and that 4PS UK local product remains as aligned as possible to 4PS global product testing processes, policies, and tooling.
  • Building strong knowledge of the tools used for testing at 4PS, for example, Testrail and Jira, and ensuring that anyone else becoming involved in testing is trained in the use of those tools.

The Team

As Test Manager, you will be based in the Product team at 4PS UK. However, this is a visible and collaborative role within 4PS. Aside from working closely with the Product Manager (Niall), you will work extensively with the 4PS UK development, consultancy, project management, support, and technical teams. They also maintain peer-to-peer relationships with QA/testing professionals across the 4PS Group.

Your experience and skills

We believe the key ingredients for success in this role are based on experience and mindset:

  • You have at least 3 years of experience in a similar role (senior tester, test lead or test manager).
  • You have experience with testing within the ERP domain of business software.
  • You live in the UK and do not require a VISA sponsorship.
  • You have good communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with both functional and technical colleagues.
  • You have at least basic functional understanding of the construction industry markets we serve, so that functional testing reflects real-world scenarios.
  • You are organised and willing to fully participate in release planning. You understand that with multiple stakeholders involved in multiple annual releases, your role in ensuring the quality of our released software will only work if we plan carefully and collaboratively.

There are also skills that are desirable when taking on the Test Manager role, but for which 4PS will provide training and mentoring to get up to speed quickly. Don’t worry if you don’t already have all these skills, but it would be great if you:

  • Have knowledge of software testing and quality assurance methodologies, including testing types, techniques, and test design.
  • Are familiar with the use of Jira and Confluence in a product/software development and testing, for both planned feature development and unplanned fixes.
  • Have previous experience of using Testrail for planning and executing software testing.
  • Are comfortable in documenting overall test plans as well as functional test cases, based on your functional knowledge of 4PS Construct, Business Central and other 4PS applications and portals.
  • Have a basic understanding of the purpose and approach to different types of testing, for example, unit, integration, functional, regression, user acceptance and automated testing.
