Navigating the Microsoft Partner Ecosystem: My 1st Time Journey at Directions for Partners

Last week, Microsoft Dynamics 365 partners from across Europe came together in Lyon, France, at Directions EMEA 2023 to share knowledge and learn all about the latest innovations in the Dynamics 365 Business Central platform. Among them were several of the 4PS team. Here, one of our newest team members, Zain, talks about his experience of attending Directions for Partners for the first time.

As a newcomer to the tech industry and a participant in the Microsoft talent program, I had the incredible opportunity to attend Directions for Partners in Lyon from November 1st to 3rd. Representing my company, 4PS, I embarked on a three-day adventure that would leave an indelible mark on my professional journey. With over 3,500 attendees hailing from more than 70 countries, the stage was set for an eventful and enlightening experience.

Day 1: Immersed in the World of AI and Networking

The conference kicked off with a captivating morning keynote that delved into the world of artificial intelligence. The spotlight was on the ever-evolving Copilot feature of Microsoft Business Central, showcasing how technology continues to shape our industry.

In the “New to Directions” seminar, I received a fascinating history lesson on the origins and purpose of Directions. This was the perfect introduction to the event, giving me context and a sense of belonging within this vast community.

Lunchtime was a delightful surprise as I had the opportunity to break bread with members of Companial, Microsoft and Neural Impact. This not only satiated my appetite but also nurtured new connections within the talent program. Over lunch, I had a stimulating conversation with Microsoft’s Principal Program Manager, Peter Borring, who provided me with invaluable insights into the industry.

The afternoon was dedicated to networking and enlightenment. At the expo, I mingled with like-minded professionals and absorbed knowledge at a session on visual thinking. This session shed light on how effective communication can transcend traditional email writing by employing visual aids.

The day culminated with an exclusive meet and greet dinner, where I had the privilege of being introduced to senior members of Microsoft, Revolent, and other talented individuals in the program. It was an evening filled with insights and inspiration.

Day 2: Celebrating Progress and Sustainability

Day two held a special moment for me, as I was featured in the keynote session. A video showcasing my journey to becoming a Business Central consultant was presented to the audience. This experience was not only humbling but also a testament to the growth and opportunities within the industry. The day continued with insights from various sponsors about their products. Notably, I learned how AI could play a pivotal role in achieving sustainability goals through document capture.

As part of the Microsoft talent program, I had the honour of enjoying lunch with Microsoft’s Principal Product Manager, Mike Cardona. His insights into the development of AI in our industry were invaluable, and his experiences were inspiring.

My afternoon was marked by a thought-provoking discussion on “Women in Dynamics.” The session underscored the importance of inclusivity within the industry and encouraged us to strive for greater diversity and representation.

In the evening, the 4PS team and I unwound at a delightful party. The boat cruises along the serene River Rhone offered a relaxing end to an action-packed day, as we exchanged stories and insights in a more informal setting.

Day 3: Breakfast with a Visionary

Day three demanded an early start, but it was unquestionably worth it. I began the day with breakfast alongside Mike Morton, Vice President of Microsoft Dynamics 365. Learning about his career journey, personal insights, and how he rose to the position of VP was nothing short of inspirational.

The final keynote delivered enlightening perspectives on sponsor products, showcasing the remarkable innovations taking place within the Microsoft partner ecosystem.

As our flight back to Birmingham beckoned, we reluctantly bid au revoir to Lyon, leaving behind three days filled with learning, networking, and unforgettable moments. This experience will be etched in my memory as a pivotal chapter in my professional journey.

Directions for Partners in Lyon was a whirlwind of insights, connections, and fun. It offered a unique opportunity to learn from industry experts, network with fellow professionals, and gain a deeper understanding of the ever-evolving tech landscape. My first experience at this event was a priceless treasure trove of knowledge and inspiration that I will carry with me on my journey in the tech industry. It was a remarkable reminder that innovation, inclusivity, and personal connections are at the heart of the Microsoft partner community.
