Blog: Empowering Change Through Charity and Community Involvement - Martin

At 4PS UK, we actively encourage our team members to showcase and communicate their involvement in external community activities. This serves as a means to enhance awareness and illuminate significant causes for our employees, fostering a culture of engagement and support. This series of blogs will uncover stories behind these charitable activities, whether they involve volunteering in the community or supporting global causes. We aim to explore how these efforts leave their mark on personal and professional life aspects.

We’ve always believed that the heart of a strong and compassionate community lies in the success of its business endeavours and the collective spirit of giving back. We take immense pride in our employees, who exemplify this ethos through their unwavering commitment to improving the world. At the heart of our company culture is the belief that every individual should be able to follow their heart and support the causes that resonate with them. In this blog, we celebrate our employees’ incredible generosity and compassion as they share their personal journeys of supporting the charities closest to their hearts.

Martin Belcher – Business Developer

Martin’s involvement with Samaritans, an organisation providing vital emotional support, has not only transformed his perspective but also touched countless lives.

The Journey of Samaritans: 70 Years of Compassionate Service

Samaritans, an organisation that has been operational for seven decades, boasts more than 200 branches and a network of 18,000 volunteers. Their mission is to offer essential emotional support to individuals navigating emotional distress, including those contemplating suicide. Through various channels and approaches, Samaritans have become a cornerstone for those seeking solace and connection during their darkest moments.

What Inspired Martin to Step In

With a history of 30 years of volunteering with the Scouts, Martin found himself yearning for a new venture that could fill the void left by his previous commitments. However, it was a deeply personal moment that truly motivated his involvement. Martin’s sister shared a story of reaching out to Samaritans when struggling to cope with the sudden loss of their father. The memory of her attempt to connect—only to find the phone engaged—struck a chord with Martin. By getting involved, he ensures that such missed connection moments are minimised.

A Personal Transformation

Martin’s journey with Samaritans has been a transformative experience. The comprehensive training and the diverse range of individuals he has met have reshaped his perspective on life’s challenges. He has shared that the experience of helping someone who begins the call with frustration and leaves with a sense of improvement is genuinely indescribable and the most rewarding aspect of working for the Samaritans.

While Martin anticipates stepping down from his current role at the end of September, his dedication remains unwavering. He looks forward to a well-deserved break before starting a new chapter with another Samaritans branch early next year. Although upcoming events or fundraisers may not be on his immediate radar, his commitment to the cause and its continuous advancement are evident.

How do I get involved?

For those inspired by Martin’s journey and Samaritans’ mission, there are various ways to get involved and show support. While financial contributions are welcomed and valuable, Martin emphasises the profound impact of donating your time. Volunteering not only creates a direct effect but also offers a personally rewarding experience. For those considering volunteering – Martin is open to discussing this further with anyone interested.
